8layer welcomes new CEO

On 8layer's 12th year anniversary, the management welcomed and officially announced their new CEO, Mr. Nestee Macadaeg. He is an avowed “Out of the Box” Business Strategist with broad experience in all aspects of management operations, R&D/business development, HR, and Sales, Nestee has a solid exposure and experience in manufacturing, service and trading companies.

With 20 years of management experience holding various top positions in multinational companies, Nestee is very well versed in Industrial Analytics, Business Partnership Contracts and Government Projects with exceptional and cogent communication skills.   He is a a graduate of Industrial Engineering at Mapua Institute of Technology and has an MBA degree in Philippine School of Business Administration.

Mr. Meric Mara, founder and former CEO, will be 8layer's Chairman of the Board. He will be focusing on company business direction and expansion and will also handle special projects.

Project Quarta- Next generation Cryptocurrency Application and Ecosystem

How does it work?

Proposed Mechanics/Method/Model for Offline(Cold) Wallet Transactions using One-time Password (OTP), MerlinCrypt (ASBE), and BlockChain

1. Wallet owners shall open an account with the clearing house (Bank) and make a deposit. The account owner shall prescribe the amount to be credited to his/her offline wallet. Credited amount to offline wallet shall be frozen and cannot be used other than the transactions made on his/her offline wallet. Online transactions can only use unfrozen portion unless a limit is prescribed and transactions beyond the prescribed limit requires personal verification/authorization (via phone call).
2. Wallet is created with the essential credentials of the owners identity and unique keys for OTP, blockchain, and merlincrypt.
3. Creation of encryption keys should be time synced using google authenticator OTP algorithm such that each transactions shall be unique with random keys and can be verified/authenticated mathematically at the central clearing house based on the time of transaction.
4. Encryption keys shall be dynamically produced every 30 seconds for each account which is more than enough time for payor and payee to consummate a single transaction.* (Encryption keys shall be dynamically generated. Encryption keys are only valid for 30 seconds for each account which is more than enough time for payor and payee to consummate a single transaction. *)
   1. * It is not necessary for the keys to be actually generated every 30 secs, but the algorithm for the mathematical verification/authentication of each transaction can be completed within a 30 seconds window.
5. Procedural Mechanics
   1. Payor and Payee opens their wallet app,
   2. Payor shall select transaction mode “send” and enters the amount to be sent, thereafter a QR code containing his essential credentials and cryptographic parameters (OTP) shall appear on the lower half portion of the screen with upper half portion showing the camera’s view.
   3. Payee shall select transaction mode “receive”, a QR code containing his essential credentials and cryptographic parameters shall appear on the lower half portion of the screen with upper half portion showing the camera’s view.
   4. Each will scan the opposite party’s QR code, after which the camera view will change showing the identity of the opposite party, the amount of the transaction and the buttons “proceed” and “cancel”, while maintaining the QR code at the lower portion.
   5. By pressing proceed the upper half shall revert back to the camera view and both shall scan the opposite party’s QR code again and the transaction is consummated.
   6. QR code of previous transactions can be viewed anytime.
   7. Transaction keys should implement OTP for dynamic random generation.
   8. At this point the transaction cannot be reversed unless a new transaction is made.
   9. A new encrypted file using ASBE for the parties’ wallet shall be created reflecting all previous transactions and the latest transaction made.
   10. Sending an amount cannot be made if the wallet is insufficient.
   11. Transactions cannot be consummated if OTP between parties are off by 30 seconds.
   12. Other administrative measures can be implemented such as limits and personal verification/authorization (via phone call).
6. Other administrative policies or rules such as syncing their wallet within a prescribed period of time shall be required in order to guarantee the transaction otherwise the bank cannot be held accountable for discrepancies.
7. In case of lost wallet, frozen credits cannot be unfrozen for a prescribed period of time plus a day to give ample time for the opposite parties to sync their wallet.
8. Syncing the wallets enables the insertion of the transactions into the blockchain and a mechanism shall be provided for insertion within a prescribed period of time, since transactions are not synced at the same time. Side chains must be implemented for this scenario.
9. Syncing shall initialize the wallet with new keys/parameters. Old files are automatically archived at the clearing house data center.

BENEFITS:

• Payment Freedom – Send and receive coins anytime, anywhere. No bank holidays, no borders and no limits.

• Very low fees – Payments are currently processed with either no fees or extremely small fees. Users may include fees with transactions to receive priority in verification. Fees are lower than any bank or payment gateway in existence.

• Fewer Risks for Merchants –transactions are secure, irreversible, and don’t contain customer’s sensitive or personal information. This protects the merchants from losses caused by fraud or fraudulent chargebacks.

• Security & Control – Users are in full control of their transactions. It is impossible for merchants to force unwanted or unnoticed charges as what happens with other payment methods. Users can also protect their money with backup and encryption.

• Transparent & Neutral - All information concerning the money supply itself is readily available on the block chain for anybody to verify and use in real-time. 

Outcomes-based Engineering Education.

Yesterday, I had the chance of being an advisory board member for the College of Computer Engineering at National University, Manila.
I told them that it is high time that we produce "Engineers that are at par to the demand of the industry.  This is the real definition of "outcomes-based" Engineering Education.

1. Statistics subject must be geared toward data analysis or big data.
2. They should come up with "Lab In A Box” where students should have a laboratory in their pockets. Makers boards can be a good component for this.
3. Algorithms much be apart of the "Advanced Engineering" Mathematics.
4. Electives can be utlized to teach "what's new in Technology, AI, Security and BIG DATA.
5. Technopreneurs should have components like Business Plan.
6. In Data Communication, Satellite standards and protocols should also be considered.
7. Students must be exposed to the community to enhance their technical skills and collobarate with other students or makers.
8. University/(ies) must reengineer their Computer Engineering Majors (Software, Boards or Embedded, Network, Management etc).

I hope that I was able to contribute to them. I'm excited to see the next batch of engineers who are equipped and competent to serve our country.

I think I was able to design a platform that will challenge Facebook or other Social Media platforms. I will call it "Value Media" for now. This is disruptive! Here is the design. I also shared this to Nestee and Sir Rudy. We are all excited about this.

When pressing the ball is not crucial anymore

When I was a kid, i really liked basketball. One of the things that  was taught to us by our coach was the is term "Press the Ball". Pressing the ball is a good tactic especially if your team is leading the game and you want to maintain the score until the end of game and then--you win! You make the game slower by maximizing your 24-second time clock.

In this modern day, when we talk about project management and project delivery, pressing the ball should teach us a good lesson. If you are in the "pressure" stage and time is running out, you don't press the ball. You simply focus on delivering the project on time with quality and making sure that it is still producing revenue to fuel the operation. This is when we need to work SMARTLY!

Team members not knowing or understanding what their responsibilities are, not owning their part of the project leads to project failure. This will teach us that pressing the ball is not crucial anymore when resources are fully compromised. "Being late is not an excuse". The team should focus on meeting the work deadlines and be productive .

Open Source in the Philippines

Philippines, as we all know, is an archipelago. That fact comes with challenges though and so it has always been my dream for this country to have collaborative groups that will unite every island by creating a system using open source that will map the Philippines to the world as innovators. More than software and technology, collaboration and relationship are the keys.

Open Source in the Philippines

Currently, more serious Open Source groups and developers in the community are now starting to promote Open Source softwares via social media doing some caravans, seminars and hackathons. In hackathons, the programmers are very much involved with their prototypes and those were made using Open Source softwares, very impressive!

Big companies like Microsoft considers Open Source and Linux as the real deal players and movers in their businesses. This helps a lot in promoting Open Source not only in the country but in the whole world. Users are now starting to adapt to a more dynamic approach in technology. In fact, the general public and even those working in different kinds of industries, Non-Profit, Education and Government are using Open Source without them knowing it. Many of them don't have any idea what Open Source is and the principles behind it as long as their gadgets or preferred apps answer their needs and requirements.

What's Next for Open Source in the Philippines?

Here are some insights on what needs to be done in order to properly promote Open Source and take advantage of its benefits:

1. Schools and universities should take Open Source seriously as a tool for innovation and start learning the value of collaboration.
2. Donate to Pinoy Open Source projects to help fuel innovators on their projects geared towards Filipinos.
3. Government should start and continuously adopt Open Source softwares. They should set to be an example for both students and professionals.
4. HB1011 should also be given attention nowadays as government really needs Open Source in this country.
5. Collaboration and sharing should always be promoted in any endeavor.
6. Community should continue to capitalize on social media to have a strong bond and relationship among members to create more projects.
7. Philippines should have a serious movement for research and BIG DATA using Open Source to fully grasp the top priorities in creating projects and solving problems for the country.
8. It would be great to have a Philippine Open Source Day Program for Filipinos. A day that will remind us that collaboration and innovation are good drivers in economic growth.

At the end of the day, it's not about Technology alone anymore. It's about communities that bond together, creating value  made possible by Open Source Technology!

When claiming is bad

I was very sad for my former creative Mr. JB. It's as if we didn't teach him the virtue of work and having pride for his work. I have browsed his porfolio this morning and found out that he's claiming the work of Ms. Tau and Mr. Lariz Santos. I don't understand why people with creative talents still opt to get fame with the work that they didn't do.

 Well, it's sad but it's certainly not hard to do the right thing.

There are lots to do in the Philippines for IOT. One of the important things that I've learned from IOT today is what they call "CONNECTION EFFECT".
It means creating value for the next generation using IOT. This is interesting (CONNECTED-->>SMART-->>AUTONOMOUS)


One of my dreams for the Philippines is for the nation to be connected using technology or IOT. I call this "Creating Pinoy Culture of Collaboration through Technology". With this, we can show the world the real power and value of our country.
