ISMOL BUT TERIBOL?
Maaga akong nagising ngayon dahil nga sa isang bidding na kailangan puntahan.

SMEtoolkit
Nandito ako ngayon sa batanggas para sa isang event yung SMEtoolkit ng Planters bank.
isa kasi ang aming company 8layer Technologies, Inc. sa naanyayahan para mag speak o magpresent re: LOTUS FOUNDATION START.
kwentuhan ang tema na kung saan, sa mga presentation na nangyari nag patungkol sa evolution ng technology. (may story pa nga about..what is internet? at mga classic na technology like betamax+VHS at kwentong rewinder=)
yung aming presentation naman (na ginawa ko lang kagabi yung slides) ay nagtukoy naman sa SME, sa kung paano yung technology trends kasabay ng kanilang ICT adoption, may isiningit din kami na study na ginawa ng UNDP at syempre yung main product yung "IBM Lotus Foundation" at syempre ulit ang aming advocacy na "IT is all about values" wheeeew! (buti naman at natapos ko). sinasabay ko din kasi kagabi yung mga application namin (ERP,POS,CMS,sitebuilder)na nasa aming development server na dapat mailagay ko sa aking laptop para maidemo din sa mga organizer at sa mga interesado individual dito sa SMEtoolkit event.

ano ba yung mga hindi malilimutan sa araw na ito???
1. siguro yung lumagpas lang kami ng konti papuntang LIPA dahil sa bago na yung daan at umabot kami sa ibaan. (pero okay naman...at least alam na namin yung bagong daan papunta kina henyo,nilda at pangkal..aba miss ko na tuloy yung LOMI trip.)
2. yung dami ng mga tao sa SMEtoolkit event. mahigit 100 ata yung umattend, nahilo ako sa ingay ng mga tao sa likod (sana naman hindi mga organizer iyon) parang dalawa kasi yung mikropono...isa sa harap-yung mga gamit na "presentation" at isa sa likod -yung mga nagtutumpukan na tao na parang nagkakape lang sa starbucks kung makapagkwentuhan.
3. Plantersbank+GLOBE+IBM Event itong SMEtoolkit; Pero yung presentation ng Globe dun sa parteng MOBILITY BUNDLING ay "HP computers/laptops" hehehe nice one ms. jhing mojares =) (ayun buti natandaan ko yung name ng nagpresent. sana sa susunod ay Lenovo or IBM laptops na yung bundle. =) (TAPOS LINUX OS (fedora o ubuntu...solve na yung mga SME dito)+GNU Apps+visibility) PWEDE!!! tutal SME ang gagamit...START "IT" right.. sabi ng huling penguin sa huling slide ng aming presentation.
sa huli, friendly naman yung mga tao sa event yung mga taga SME.com.ph lalo na kay Sir. Ado din...ay maraming salamat din sa food-nakadalawang balik ako.. =) sarap ng pasta.

Kahapon, sa aming munting opisina bilang parte ng aming lingguhang aktibidades na (KS:knowledge sharing). nag share si renan patungkol sa rsync bale binigyan nya ng diin ang mga sumusunod.

paano ko ba sisimulan? ilang araw palang kasi mula ng nagrequest ako ng bagong cellphone (this time under na sa company namin; dahil yung dati kong plan is still under athena e-services. na hassle para sa amin everytime may mga kailangan kaming support; kesyo hinahanap yung dating signatory na matagal nadin wala sa athena e-services...at kung ano anong mga bagay bagay na hindi namin control
anong mga natutunan ko?
hindi talaga nag aaupdate ng maayos ang database/CRM ng smart. (ayun lang naman sa aking palagay)
medyo hassle ang customer service nila pagdating sa mga ganito cases.
anyway,kakapalit palang ng aking phone (this time may bago na kasi akong N82) sana, nag patulong na din ako sa smart para ma iblast sa lahat ng contact ko yung bagong number (eto medyo okay itong service nila na ito lalo na't may halos 600+ pala akong mga number sa luma kong cellphone). pero kanina,MALAS ata! nalaglag sya sa TAXI na MGE, ilawng beses kong tinawagan using my old number at nagbabakasakaling maisauli ng kung sino man ang makakuha at makapulot nito.
pero wala, iba na ata talaga ang panahon;kasabay ng pagtaas ng bigas at pagpapahirap ng mga oil company sa ating bansa..nasabay na din ata ang pagpapahirap ng ilang individual na hindi na ata naiintindihan ang halaga ng pagintindi at pagsauli ng gamit...di ko na din sila pa bibigyan ng mahabang kwento sa blog na ito...kasalan ko din marahil...shit happens!

usapang POSS
Kahapon, may natangap akong email patungkol sa maliit na kwento at komento sa open letter na ginawa ng 8layer patungkol sa POSS. nakakatuwa sa isang banda may natutunan ako; mga kwento at mga maliliit na kadahilan para sa pagpigil ng malayang pagiisip at makatuwirang pagpapaunlad at pagtataas ng antas ng ating lipunan. LALO tuloy akong na challenge para lalo kong paghusayan sa larangan ng Open Source at labanan ang ilang maliliit na katiwalian.

Ngayong huling araw ng hunyo ang dami ko ng gustong i-blog. naipon na ata at medyo kailangan kong maghabol.

Jose Rizal
Batiin ko lang sa kanyang kaarawan itong ating pambansang bayaning si "GAT" (hindi ko kasi nabati kahapon)
Magkukwento lang ako ng konti. Naalala ko kasi noong bata ako may mga kalaro ako at yung mga "barbero" ng tatay ko eh tinatawag akong Jose Rizal. Marahil eh... sa istilo ng buhok noong mga panahong iyon (elementary ako =) ). Kaya siguro, nung high school ako eh GEL yung pinagdiskitahan ko hanggang college..este pati pala dun ako sa mga dati ko pang work...
E ngayon kasi longhair at di na ako na ge-gel at alam ko nakwento ko na eto.
pero teka, bakit ba buhok ko ang ikinukwento ko eh KAARAWAN ng ating pambansang bayani nga ang aking paksa ngayon?

To all smart subscribers, did you know that WVdial can save the day!
Since it is very critical for me to be able to use "Internet" when I'm out of the confines office, I configured my Eeepc and my p990i+wvdial[1] ... This way, im able to
*properly monitor the status of our clients
*Send important emails
*update my projects and do my research
*others...
Yes, I opted for wvdial since this is very easy to use and this is the program that the NITIX product that we carry, used as an intelligent PPP dialer.
Dont cram yourself to send me SMS or email me on how I was able to configure this on my eeepc. Instead, right here i will share the steps so that everybody can also do this and enjoy this kind of service. (i believe that the steps will also work for any debian base linux)
IMPORTANT NOTE:
I just consulted "Jajapot" and she told me that you need to pay PhP 10/ per 30mins based on her experience. hiyun lang!
OKAY,let's start.
First you need to install WVdial on your PC (Eeepc)
then , I updated my /etc/apt/sources.list
#vi /etc/apt/sources.list

IMPORTANT NOTE:
* “internet” is smart's (APN) so you need to put this line in your configuration.
Init3 = AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet"
* If your using smart network you can put any value in username and password since this is not needed.
* It is very important that you also put *99# as your phone value. (check with smart network)

Dont cram yourself to send me SMS or email me on how I was able to configure this on my eeepc. Instead, right here i will share the steps so that everybody can also do this and enjoy this kind of service. (i believe that the steps will also work for any debian base linux)
IMPORTANT NOTE:
I just consulted "Jajapot" and she told me that you need to pay PhP 10/ per 30mins based on her experience. hiyun lang!
OKAY,let's start.
First you need to install WVdial on your PC (Eeepc)
then , I updated my /etc/apt/sources.list
#vi /etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://xnv4.xandros.com/xs2.0/upkg-srv2 etch main contrib non-free
deb http://dccamirror.xandros.com/dccri/ dccri-3.0 main
deb http://update.eeepc.asus.com/p701 p701 main

install wv-dial using apt-get
# apt-get install wvdial
create/modify wvdial configuration file.
# wvdialconf
*this command will detect your USB modem (P990i) and will automatically genarate /etc/wvdial.conf file.
#vi /etc/wvdial.conf
IMPORTANT NOTE:
* “internet” is smart's (APN) so you need to put this line in your configuration.
Init3 = AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet"
* If your using smart network you can put any value in username and password since this is not needed.
* It is very important that you also put *99# as your phone value. (check with smart network)
enough of explaining the other parametters..whew!...here is my /etc/wvdial.conf =)

Back to School, Back to Basics
Madaling araw na din when we finished our work in the office.
It was enormously tiring after the 3 consecutive KS (knowledge sharing) which i conducted
yesterday not to mention the orientation that i shared to LEN (new member of 8liens)...hala! sana makayanan mo yung mahirap na work sa 8layer..lagot! =)
Very well, my topics majorly did dwell on the following:
1. Sharing my insights on R&D/Design patterns and ERP Implementations.
-Thanks to Jasper and Kuya Rey because of the "INVALUABLE" ideas that they shared yesterday with regards to this topic as well. (I will note on our panda_y,pand@y,panda\y na isunulat ni jasper sa ating whiteboard) ay sya! paano ba natin ito e-espelengin?
2. Medyo kating-kating ako dito as this is one of my favorite,conducting Linux training to schools and other firms.THE LINUX BOOT PROCESS, this is also the first time in which i just outlined topics for discussion using a scratch paper na gamit ang whiteboard marker tapos sulat(s1,s2,s3,s4.s5)..stages..blahblah.. before presenting it to the group. As I always use IMPRESS lately everytime I conduct trainings or do presentations.
Reminisicing, it was during my yourger years that i've really learned so much about LINUX and its was during that period (that was 1996-1998), where i used to have my PLAYBOOK to map each and every detail on how LINUX boots... Without it,I believe it will be difficult for me to make my own distribution. Since I just finished our core OS (Kawing-Kawing Linux) last week (knowledge on bootprocess,hacking loader and init) is really an interesting topic to share and discuss.
3. Technology Roadmap for our newcomer and trainee. In this KS I discussed ON-DEMAND application,Autonomic Computing,GRID computing plus the basic of OS and Applications.
Bottomline, The lesson that I've learned in this KS sums to:
basic topics, like LINUX BOOT PROCESS with the rest above..can be definitely interesting (just make sure to focus on the accuracy and chronology/logic of nitty grittys, values and relevance, and make sure to answer the WHAT's in it for me/ or for the user? Whoever your audience is.
also, basic training tools and materials like (scratch paper) that comes in handy is not a
problem when doing presentation or technical sharing as long as you
know what you are talking about and know your topic by heart...( di kailangan ng projector..walang malaking TV.. excuses impedes learning and growth..) Just be selfless and continue the things that you want to share to your audience (make sure naman na tama). And lastly, it is also better you put this to practice, give each one assigned tasks/ assignment but most of all it is best that you make it work... kailangang magawa, first and for most.

My NVS and Lotus Foundation
I just finished installing my (3) three NVS environment on my Nitix Version 5.0.0a #0
1. nvs-sles10-2971.pkg; 2. Debian (Sarge) - Versabox 0.2.0 BETA and 3. nvs-1.1-25107.tar. Everythings works okay. I am still deciphering though on how to repackage all of these so that we can include our own rpm-based applications.
* BTW, if someone out there is knowlegeable in LFS, we are looking for a linux developer (certified geeks only- with lots of usable brain cells) who could help us with our ongoing project on linux distribution for our application. For those who may be interested just email mbmara@gmail.com or you may catch us at the Joomla Day on June 14 at UP.
Moving on, yesterday I was able to download a copy of Lotus Foundations-1_0_0. We installed it on my old P3 machines but we are having problem with it (hardware issue) . So we changed the hardware, we got to install it @
Genuine Intel[R] CPU 2160 @ 1.80GHz - 1800.442 MHz (GenuineIntel)
VT6102 [Rhine-II] (VIA Technologies, Inc.)
UniChrome Pro IGP (VIA Technologies, Inc.)
ST3160215AS ATA - 156.3 GB
Installation is as easy as 1-2-3, that even a grade three pupil can understand.
(hehehe sounds familiar j/k)
Enhanced user interface is something you will love on this distro.
I just have a little question with the "LOTUS FOUNDATIONS" logo since we are finishing up with this brochure, I'm really confused WITH REGARDS to its OFFICIAL COLOR. I see YELLOW+BLACK=WHITE or BLACK+WHITE. I hope that our friends@IBM will elucidate me on this.
... Going back, MY SAMBA experience after i connect using my ordinary user/account is that i can see all the other folders but can only access my own folder while the rest of the folders is "ACCESS IS DENIED". I just missed my Nitix SMB on which if i access my samba using my ordinary account the only folder that i can access is my own folder and only the root account can view all the folders.
And as to MY EMAIL experience, from qmail to postfix. =) it's very nice. But no webmail. Good thing our team developed our own webmail that we did call "mail8". As for now, this webmail client of ours uses http://www.php.net/imap to access our emails.... HENYO mabuhay ka!
upon more tinkering, my other findings shall follow...

IT sa pinas at ang isa sa balakid sa pag unlad..LAPTOP!
Mahigit sampung taon na akong nag tatrabaho sa larangan pinili ko ang “IT”. nakita ko na rin ang layo at bilis ng IT mula sa nang panahong nag tuturbo C at wordstar ako (OO ito ang mga unang gingamit ko nung nag aaral ako bago ako tuluyang mag linux) mula sa ngayong may mga tinatawag ng on-demand..autonomic at mga laruang clustering at virtualization na uso. malayo na ang nilakbay....
sa kabila ng layo nito , iilan palang dito sa pinas talaga ang nakakaintindi at nakakagamit ng teknolohiya ng tama? mapakatulad naming nagbibigay ng serbisyo o maging panig man ng binibigyan ng serbisyo. mga ilang obserbasyon marahil ang bibigyan ko ng mga kadahilanan na masarap iugnay sa isyu ng “laptop”.
OO, laptop. halimbawa isa kang “IT expert at IT consultant ngunit di mo kayang bumili ng laptop. Nagtitipid ka ba o sadyang sa dami mong prioridad di mo kayang bumili, o dahil ayaw mong bumili, may nagpahiram sa yo at ayun, tuwang tuwa ka na lang, IT Expert ka na...
Ito marahil ang isa sa mga sakit na malakas at pag hatak paibaba ng antas ng teknolohiya.
marami kasing sa ating mga Filipino (IT consutant daw) may ugaling mapag-angkin..kesyo proud tayong mag sabi na may LAPTOP TAYO at itutugma ito at proud na tayong mag sasabi na CONSULTANT NA TAYO,sa mga baguhan ng computer..nakakalinlang at IT EXPERT na itatawag sa atin...ngunit wala naman talagang kayang ipamalas o magpatibay...at ang masakit.hindi pa pala natin pag-aari ang laptop. IT consultant ang itatawag sa atin, ngunit ang kaexpertuhan naman kung hindi friendster ay yahoo messenger. ganun ang katotohanan! madaming mapagbalat kayo, masakit man isipin parte ito ng tinatawag na “LINISIN” ng mga tunay na nagpapahalaga sa larangan.
TATAK PILIPINO, madalas kasi mahilig ang “iba” sa atin sa tatak o “label” ngunit yung kaakibat na mga alituntunin hindi iniintindi o hindi lang talaga naintindihan, iresponsable. mahilig gumamit ng salita na parang ganun ganun nalang at walang respeto dito tulad ng “IT EXPERT”,”CFO” “Security Expert” or “MAY- ARI” ng isang company na kung sa susukatin, kapos...kaya madaming nadadamay at napeperwisyo.

TATAK PILIPINO, madalas kasi mahilig ang “iba” sa atin sa tatak o “label” ngunit yung kaakibat na mga alituntunin hindi iniintindi o hindi lang talaga naintindihan, iresponsable. mahilig gumamit ng salita na parang ganun ganun nalang at walang respeto dito tulad ng “IT EXPERT”,”CFO” “Security Expert” or “MAY- ARI” ng isang company na kung sa susukatin, kapos...kaya madaming nadadamay at napeperwisyo.
walang pinagkaiba sa doctor na hindi marunong mag reseta
walang pinagkaiba sa lawyer na hindi marunong gumawa ng demand letter
walang pag kakaiba sa mga taong nag sasabi “IT Expert o IT consultant” na hindi marunong mag program at ang masakit, walang “sariling” laptop.
mga kwento..kabulaanan o katotohanan?..sa huli..sa tunay na giyera o larangan.. may mga ganitong klaseng nilalang pala, at dyan tayong lahat mag-iingat, ako nga natanso, sila pala'y salot at matinding kabalakidan ng kaunlaran.

Scalix 11.4
Kinana,habang nagsusuport ng isang client sa SCALIX re: email routing at konting scripting (ay..hindi nga pala ako marunong mag program hehehe =))
medyo napadpad at nakibasa basa sa blog ni tamang kulit.

hindi kailangan mahal ang kaalaman...My Booksale Experience
Sa aking mga libreng oras, lagi ko minamake sure na may nababasa ako at nakakagawa ako ng mga bagay bagay patungkol sa aking work, madalas nasa online ako para magtingin tingin at magbasa basang mga kaganapan sa IT lately eto sa dalaang site ako bumababad [1]free software magazine,[2] cioinsight.
May mga books din ako lagi sa likod g red car na vios namin para pag mahahabang biyahe nakakabasa basa din ako, lately kasi madami dami din akong biniling book sa BOOKSALE.. oo sa BOOKSALE dati kasi pumupunta lang ako dun para bumili ng mga paborito kong magazine pero lately puro books naman yung nakukuha o nabibili ko.
Kamakailan lang, nakakuha ako ng books re: Redhat Enterprise,MySQL,Advance PHP,QMAIL and guide sa LPI certification. yung mga books na ito eh nag ra-range sa 300 to 500 pesos; magandang presyo kumpara kung bibili ako sa national bookstore o amazon na mahigit sa libo ang aking magagastos. kaya lang syempre tsambahan yung mga books na makukuha mo.Katulad kanina yung dumaan ako sa BOOKSALE sa SM WEST wala na akong mapiling books o di ko trip bilhin bukod sa puro microsoft yung title yung iba naman eh patungkol sa design like photoshop o flash na sya namang hindi pa ang interest ko ngayon, yung iba naman eh mga CISCO na books.
kaya balik ako bilang mangangalkal ng magazine, nakakatuwa lang kasi.. this time marami akong nakakal na patungkol sa LINUX..ayus! LINUX MAGAZINE na dec 2007 issue pero 20 pesos lang meron ding february 2008 edition n 33 pesos at isang inux journal Dec 2007 ISsUE 164 na halagang 90pesos
ngayon, medyo bababad na muna ako sa mga ito...tamang tama pag umebs ako =)
kaya kayo, kung tulad ko na bukod sa maraming e-books na koleksyon at babasahing hard copy, kung may konti kayong panahon bumusita lang sa booksale o mga kaparehang tindahan nito, malay nyo makakuha din kayo ng mga ilang babasahin na makakatulong o dagdaga kaalaman sa munting presyo lamang...laging tatandaan hindi kailangan mahal o magastos para madagdagan ang kaalaman..sipag at diskarte lang magandang puhunan na.

MySQL database replication
It was a long time since I last posted technical tips in my blog. I’ll post one this time for some reason. Topic? “MySQL database replication”
As I commence implementation and testing for my internal project in relation to High availability I am concurrently doing an internal project with regards to MYSQL database replication. I will be happy sharing this information; not only will this be very exciting but if given utmost attention, will shed aid for every database administrator that using mySQL server.
As you read along, the things and steps are scribbled to make this solution possible.
In my example below, I used the following information.
Database name to be on mirror/replicated: mericdb
My Network/Server Information:
Master: Primary Database
IP ADDRESS: 192.168.69.108
Server name: node01
Slave: Secondary Database
IP ADDRESS: 192.168.69.208
Server name: node02
My SLAVE USER NAME: mericuser
Another thing that we need to note is that I already installed my web and database server using “yum” and downloaded phpmyadmin to handle the administration of My MySQL over the Web.
wget http://jaist.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/phpmyadmin/phpMyAdmin-2.11.6-all-languages-utf-8-only.tar.gz
On My MASTER SERVER
1. Configure Master /etc/my.cf:
[root@node01 ~]# vi /etc/my.cnf
Under [mysqld]
log-bin
binlog-do-db=mericdb
server-id=1
Then let’s restart MySQL:
[root@node01 ~]# service mysqld restart
2. Then, log into the MySQL database as root and create a user with replication privileges:
mysql -u root -p
Enter password:
Now we are on the MySQL shell.
GRANT REPLICATION SLAVE ON *.* TO ' mericuser'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY '123'; FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
Next (still on the MySQL shell), do this:
USE mericdb;
FLUSH TABLES WITH READ LOCK;
SHOW MASTER STATUS;
The last command will display something like this:
mysql> SHOW MASTER STATUS;

3. Getting data undo SLAVE
[root@node01 ~]#mysqldump -u root -p --opt mericdb > mericdb.sql
[root@node01 ~]#scp mericdb.sql root@192.168.69.208:/tmp/
Enter password:
Okay, now let’s unlock the tables in mericdb:
mysql -u root -p
Enter password:
UNLOCK TABLES;
quit;
(magkape ka muna, tapos cr na rin… - for my international readership: get a cup of batangas coffee, then take a long pee)
On My SLAVE SERVER
1. On the slave server, we first need to create the database mericdb:
[root@node02 ~]# mysql -u root -p
Enter password:
CREATE DATABASE mericdb;
quit;
[root@node02 ~]# mysql -u root -p mericdb < /tmp/mericdb.sql
2. Configure server /etc/my.cf:
[root@node02 ~]# vi /etc/my.cnf
Under [mysqld]
server-id=2
master-host=192.168.69.108
master-connect-retry=60
master-user= mericuser
master-password=123
replicate-do-db=mericdb
Then, we restart MySQL:
[root@node02 ~]# service mysqld restart
[root@node02 ~]# mysql -u root -p
Enter password:
LOAD DATA FROM MASTER;
quit;
[root@node02 ~]# mysql -u root -p
Enter password:
SLAVE STOP;
In the next command (still on the MySQL shell), you have to replace the values appropriately:
CHANGE MASTER TO MASTER_HOST='192.168.69.108', MASTER_USER=' mericuser ', MASTER_PASSWORD='123', MASTER_LOG_FILE=' node01-bin.000002', MASTER_LOG_POS=282;
• MASTER_HOST is the IP address of the master database
• MASTER_USER is the user we granted replication privileges on the master.
• MASTER_PASSWORD is the password of MASTER_USER on the master.
• MASTER_LOG_FILE is the file MySQL given back (resulting) when you run /running SHOW MASTER STATUS; on the master.
• MASTER_LOG_POS is the position MySQL given back when you run/ running SHOW MASTER STATUS; on the master.
For our Final steps, let’s start the slave server. Still on the MySQL shell we run
START SLAVE;
quit;
Finished!
Every time we update mericdb on the master, all changes will be replicated to mericdb on the slave. I use my phpmyadmin tool to test and update my databases.
Now, you know why it took me a while before it got to post again….
