My position on mbtc.ph
To friends asking me about mbtc.ph, I'm no longer connected to the project. You can contact their website for more inquiry about bitcoin and their projects. We wish their success and we hope that there are more bitcoin players to come, especially here in the Philippines. Thank you!

March 12, 2014 - Geekineers of 8Layer welcome 5th year Com Eng students from Pamantasan ng Lungsod of Maynila (PLM) on their field trip to experience IT companies in action and to learn about latest trends in technology.
Geekineer Meric Mara, 8Layer's CEO started with a brief talk about 8Layer as a company, its culture and the people behind its success.
He was followed by Geekineer Nick delos Santos, who went from being a trainee to a trainer, on android history and development.

8Layer conducts 2 week Android Bootcamp
As the year of the horse sets in,
8Layer Technologies is already moving in great strides by offering
Android Bootcamps to aspiring developers. Accordingly, it had
successfully conducted the first one last January 20-30. Attended
by 6 participants from Comnet Management Inc., the bootcamp was a
jump-start for novice developers to know the basics of android
programming.
The 10-day training started with a
brief background about Android given by Mr. Nick delos Santos. It
was followed by a more technical discussion and hand-on activities
conducted by Mr. Melchor Abcede, 8Layer's Android/mobile
programmer. Trainees listened eagerly and asked questions as Mr.
Abcede went
on to more technical topics such as the Android libraries,
Eclipse,
SQLite, JSON, and the like. They were also able to create simple
applications like Student Management Application and a calculator.
To conclude, not only did the trainees
gained knowledge and learn Android programming, but they've also
had
fun while learning. Big appreciation to Kimlawrence P. Cruz, Don
M.
Montecillo, Orbith G. Baco, Jessa M. Cahilig, Lanz Rowin J. Laqui,
Joseph I. Argosino for being good students to Mr. Abcede.

8layer joins WCST on their Education Freedom Day
8layer CEO Mr. Meric Mara talked about the importance of Gamification and Free Educational Resource that should be shared freely to everyone so that they all can learn from it, improve it then use it for their needs.
The seminar became a memorable event when Mr. Mara gave the audience games where every student participated. This added a fun flavor to the seminar.

Be More. Be useful & Be of Service this Christmas
Dear Team 8liens:
7:53PM December 24,2013 Christmas is just a few hours away.
Carollers are still outside singing Christmas songs.
Some of you probably are still at the mall for last minute Christmas shopping.
Some perhaps are busy cooking food for noche buena. etc,
But let me greet every one of you before 12MN.. I know that you are busy and waiting for this wonderful day of the year.
I just want to take this opportunity to salute every 8lien for the support that each of you has given to make this company alive and kicking. I hope that we 8liens will continue to give our full efforts to be a smiling 8liens whatever happens and always share their knowledge for the benefit of humankind. I may not be a perfect leader but rest assured that I will always do my best to protect our culture and to ensure that our environment is an ideal place to work with.
Let's not forget our marching order "Be More. Be useful & Be of Service"
Thank you 8liens for the support through thick and thin!
I wish all of you a blessed Christmas and may God be with us and guide us always! Tsudooo!

Installing Yaourt
I missed Yaourt tool already. Good thing that the flight is delayed so I have ample time to install it with my new KahelOS & Aspire S3.
Here are the things that I did to accomplish this.
1.Install package-query package
tar zxvf package-query.tar.gz
cd package-query
makepkg -si
cd ..
2.Install yaourt
tar zxvf yaourt.tar.gz
cd yaourt
makepkg -si
cd ..
3. Install from [archlinuxfr] repository
vim /etc/pacman.conf
and add this
[archlinuxfr]
Server = http://repo.archlinux.fr/$arch

4. Now install your favorite software at AUR

Enjoy!

Thunderbird hammering your CPU usage to more than 100%
Thank you for this bug report https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=794401 My NEW Thunderbird is now doing fine. Setting mail.db.idle_limit to 30000000 will do the trick.
Acer Aspire S3+XORG and jumpy touchpad pointer
I just installed new gnome on my laptop and it was cool and nice to play with. However, in the default installation, touchpad is really annoying and the pointer is jumpy and will surely affect your productivity.
I solved this problem by modifying synaptics.conf under my /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/.
[mmara@r3d3ye ~]$ sudo vim /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf
Adding on my config file did the trick.
Section "InputClass"
Identifier "Bye bye jumpy touchpad pointer"
MatchIsTouchpad "on"
Option "MinSpeed" "0"
Option "ConstantDeceleration" "5"
EndSection

Halloween Party is just another party but Team 8liens celebrates it with lots of twist, food, booze and fun!
Halloween Party is just another party but Team 8liens celebrates it with lots of twist, food, booze and fun!
We started the night with a prayer just like all our events for guidance and blessings for the fun night. What's a halloween party without the spooky costumes donned by 8liens? We sure enjoyed dressing up with our scary masks and make up on!
Great food is a must! We had a blast filling our tummies so we can last the whole night. Oh, about the great food! Team 8liens was a team once again in preparing the food we had for the party. That alone was a memorable experience.
Next came the exciting pinoy games such as tongue twister, charades and pinoy henyo. To top the night off, we had raffle prizes given away!
A special thanks to our honorary 8liens Milo & Macoy for the tequila!
Kudos to the organizers!
